Client Brief:

Project Title:                              Full-Time Presentation Day Films
Project Background:                Each year, Ashford College, Hadlow College and West Kent College conducts a presentation day to celebrate the achievements of its full-time students. During these ceremonies, a film is shown to the audience to scene set and showcase some of the work that takes place.
Project Timescale:                   The events are taking place during the week commencing 26th June, according to the following timescale:

                                                         West Kent College:                                                                                     29/06
                                                         Hadlow College (main campus)                                                             30/06
                                                         Filming to take place week commencing 08/05; 15/05 and 22/05.
Project Objectives:                  - to showcase the students’ work and opportunities that attending college gives
                                                         - to demonstrate the variety of curriculum areas on offer across the Group
                                                         - to provide collateral that can be further used to promote the colleges in the next academic period.
Style & Requirements:          Whilst it is important for the style to be ‘corporate’ and professional, it is also crucial that the students are central to the film and it embodies what it is like to be at the colleges.  Curriculum-focused activities should therefore be highlighted.
Style should be images set to music, rather than interviews and talking heads, or a voice-over.  Length to be no longer than 4 minutes per film, with each film reflective of the curriculum areas that are receiving their prizes on the day.
A secondary consideration, when shooting the films, would be for the content to be re-edited so that short, 2 minutes, promotional films could be created from the same content for use on the website and in presentations. These would-be curriculum-area specifics. The creation of these is outside this project scope, but should be borne in mind when shooting.

Ownership:                                 Ownership of all the materials and content remains with the colleges, although credits will be given, where possible, at the end of the film in terms of the students who shot and edited it.

The shot types for the West Kent College presentation day video for 2016 had very quick cuts and showed a lot of the college. The shots where ranged very well from close-up to extreme long shots. The music was worked in well with the shots with a jolly sound and upbeat music in the background. It was ruined by the constant stopping of students looking straight into the camera awkwardly and saying what they were doing at West Kent College. I felt this could have been changed in a way to have different shots to portray what the course was about instead of saying what it is. The other downfall to this point is that the audio sound kept changing from loud to quite when the students would speak which broke up the feel of the video.

The Hadlow College presentation day video for 2016 is very similar in many ways to the West Kent College presentation day video for 2016. The shot types are extremely similar with the vast range of shot types like close-up shots and extreme long shots. The music is slightly different with a pop song that has singing in it, this gives a more laid-back approach to the video but gives it a student feel because that kind of song would be targeted towards students. Again, similarly to the West Kent College video the talking students ruins the feel of the video because the audio levels change from quiet to loud constantly and breaks the feel of the video. I think like the last video they should have had shots to try and portray what the course involved instead of saying what it was.

Production Log #6 (25/05/2017)

Production Log #6 (25/05/2017) Filming: Today we filmed at Hadlow's Hildenbourough campus, where we filmed multiple foundation students in the animal management course. We filmed many things like the miniature ponies, alpacas, chickens, rabbits, ducks, and ducklings. Once we finished there we moved onto Mottingham, where we filmed a similar course but with extra animals like terrapins, cats, bearded dragons, and snakes. We also filmed the course muck out some of the pens.

Production Log #5 (11/05/2017) Shot Type Storyboards: We started of the day with creating a story board of different shots that where featured in the previous year presentation day videos. We had to screen grab what shot types interested us and we would use in our videos, then say what shot type it is and why it was important to use this shot type in the video. This was helpful to do this because it gave me ideas to what kind of shots I want to include in my video, as well as the feel of the video the client is looking for. Filming: Today we where told that we would be filming the Graphics course at West Kent College for the presentation day video. Regan, Jay, and I went up to the Graphics department to see what we would be filming and asked if now was a good time to film for them.
